Apple Vision Pro owners can buy PSVR2 controllers from Apple

Owners of the Apple Vision Pro can now buy the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers from Apple directly, giving them a way to play games on Apple’s headset.

As part of its update to visionOS 26, Apple added support for the PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) Sense controllers to the Apple Vision Pro. Following its release, Apple is now selling the PSVR2 Sense controllers in the online store.

The Apple Vision Pro proved that headsets can work using gestures and don’t necessarily need controllers. However, they’re still extremely useful for gaming.

To make the Apple Vision Pro better for gaming applications, Apple added support in the visionOS 26 betas for the PSVR2 Sense controllers. They are normally used with the PlayStation VR2 headset, attached to Sony’s PlayStation 5, but will also work with the Apple Vision Pro.

However, up until now, you couldn’t buy the PSVR2 controllers separately. This marks the first time Sony’s controllers are being sold without the entire PSVR2 unit.

The PSVR2 Sense controllers are priced at $249.95 in Apple’s online store.

A VR gaming expansion

The (PSVR2) Sense controllers replace the functionality of your hand entirely. Hand tracking is turned off, and you won’t accidentally click or tap with your hands.

The triggers replace the pinch function, and either joystick can scroll. Pressing the PS button opens the Home View.

Like Apple’s other hardware, you can pair a regular controller with the Apple Vision Pro, such as Sony’s DualSense line. Doing so retains hand tracking, with the controller handling taps and scrolling with the joysticks.

The introduction of the controllers have been a long time in development. In December 2024, it was reported that Apple had approached Sony over adding PSVR2 controller support to the Apple Vision Pro.

Adding support for controllers could turn around the currently minimal gaming experience offered by the Apple Vision Pro. With more conventional controls, this gives developers another way to produce games, or port them from other controller-centric platforms, for Apple’s headset.
